Senior Cup

The top two sides in the Premier Division met in the quarter final of the Senior Cup, with Carterton Town A, hosting West Witney. Despite playing with a strong wind in their favour West were unable to test Town’s makeshift keeper Steve Felstead. But they did break through early in the 2nd half, when a ball was not cleared and Si Thompson was able to fire it home from 20 yards. Carterton should have drawn level with 10 mins to when a clumsy tackle by Carl Austin on Jack Morton resulted in a penalty, but Mike Bolt’s spot kick was superbly saved by Steve Marshall. But only a minute later Town were level when Carl Williams continued his good recent scoring run. But in the 1st minute of stoppage time, Austin rose unmarked to head home a corner to win the tie.

West will play Combe in the semi final after they disposed of Hailey 4-1. Leading scorer Ethan Penney was again the man doing the damage for Combe bagging a hat trick to add to Angus Ibbotson’s goal. Luke Manning replied for Hailey who also had Russell Steele sent off late on.
There were also 2 red cards in the tie between Bourton Rovers and Chippy with Dean Blake and Craig Gilson, both being dismissed. Bourton were emphatic 6-1 winners with Sam Mattock and Adam Webley both netting braces and Chris Mills and Connor Teague scoring the others.
Bourton will play Charlbury in the other semi – Charlbury
defeating Minster by the off goal in 5. Paul Allen, Mark Goode and Duncan Fitzgerald scoring for the home side, whilst goals from Ed Dunn and Andy Horne were not quite good enough to take the tie to extra time.

Junior Cup
3 of the 4 semi finalists of the Junior Cup are also known. And all sides in the top half of Division one. Carterton overcame Spartan in a battle of the two Rangers, winning by the odd goal in 5 in a hard fought contest. Dave Cross netted the Spartan goal, but Jonny Dover and Jamie McDonough scored for the visitors.
Rangers will play FC Hollybush in the semi after they recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory at Chadlington. Manager Brad Bryant added to goals from Jack Robinson and Steve Holder.
The other semi finlists are Aston who defeated neighbours FC Nomads 3-2 in a scrappy game. Kevin Page, Jamie Austin and Ryan Hewer scored for Aston with rare goals from Daz Craig and Rob Brown not quite enough.
In the one outstanding 2
nd round tie, Chippy Res pulled off something of a shock in defeating division 2 champions Carterton Town B. Chippy were helped to no small extent by some keeping woes by Carterton manager Nigel Jones, who managed to pluck defeat from the jaws of victory with couple of late howlers. Matt Smith, Mark Clifton and Manuel Cortes scored for Chippy with Dan Sollis and Rob Marsh replying.

Supplementary Cup
Division 3 promotion chasers Tower Hill proved too strong for Division 4 leaders FC Hollybush Res winning a close contest 4-2. ‘Bush twice held the lead though goals from Arron Hyatt and Dan Hedges, but Tower’s younger and fitter leagues proved too good in the end with goals from Lewis Bartlett, Adam Bolley, Jesse Lawrence and the slight older legs of Jamie Goodwin.
Stonesfield Res continued their recent upsurge and their youthful side proved too good for Wootton winning 2-0. Both goals coming from Liam Hutton.

Division One
Eynsham SSC will be playing Premier Division football next season only a number of years after joining the league. There 2-1 win at Hailey Res was good enough to earn the points they needed. Hailey on the otherhand are still
searching for their first league win and seemed destined to play in Division 2 next year. Andy Strartford and Dave Primhak scored the decisive goals for Eynsham with David Weetnman scoring the consolation.
North Leigh A remain the only team that Hailey Res can overhaul and they did not help their cause as they went down 3-0 at Stonesfield. Mike Phipps, Paul Penney and Evans Boland scoring.
Division Two
The big game in Division 2 saw 3rd place Milton hosting 2nd placed Bampton, with both sides knowing victory would likely mean promotion. It was the home side who ran out empahtic 5-1 winners. Player manager Jim Littlewood scored a quick fire double to add to goals from Alex Ayres, Harry Lake and Stephen Pearce. Ben Liddle scored for Bampton, who still have a slender 2 point lead over Milton who in turn have 2 games in hand.
At the foot of the table Kingham have suddenly found some form and are doing their best to stave off relegation. A 3-1 defeat of Hanborough Res saw them climb off the foot of the table and they are now only 5 points from safety with 5 games left to play. Jack Aitken (2) and Gaz Price scored the goals.
In the days other game a Gary Atkinson hat trick was the highlight of Witney Wanderers 6-1 thumping of Spartan Res. Bernie Crumlish, Marc Jackson and Stu Morrison scored the
others. Joel Spalding replied for Spartan.
Division Three
There was a major shock in Division 3 as promotion favourites Wychwood Forest were beaten 2-0 by Witney Royals Res. Royals were inspired by a midfield performance seldom seen in this level of football by Jamie Kennedy who covered every blade of the the Ascott grass and helped provide goals for Matt Thompson and Dean Treadwell.
Tower Hill Stars kept up their promotion hopes and effectively ended Eynsham A’s with a 2-0 win, with Craig Mays continuing his good recent run adding to James Scott’s goal.
Middle Barton kept up their outside promotion chances beating Bourton Res 5-0. Leading scorer Jack Eley added two more to his season total with others coming from John Umney, Dan Nimmo and Josh Hunt.

Division 4

Aston Res failed to fully close the gap on the two sides above them as they were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by Combe Res. Ad Kew scored for Aston with former Aston player Tom Madden replying.
Milton Res are also just about in touch with the leaders after an emphatic 4-1 win at Eynsham SSC Res. Leading scorer Dan Hooten scored twice with Stephen Hocknell and Jim Reynolds scoring the other. Shaun Rowbotham replied.
The days biggest scorers were Kingham Res who thumped Brize Res 9-0. Liam Barnes lead the way with a hat trick and there were doubles for Ed Webb, Olly Peters and one apiece for Matt Lewis and Jake Godfrey.
