Match Reports – Week 10

The latest round of the Fred Ford Cup took place this weekend, and some high profile Premier Division teams were dumped out.

In an all-Premier Division tie, strugglers North Leigh A were beaten 4-1 by visitors Charlbury Town. A Craig McCallum hat trick and a Shaun Gilbert strike were enough to beat the home side, who replied through a Tom Radburn penalty.

Witney Royals overcame Division 1 side Brize Norton with goals from Phil Simmons, Will Graham and Jamie Kennedy. Dan King scored for the home side in the second half.

Division Two high-flyers Eynsham Sports & Social took on Premier Division leaders Chipping Norton Town, eventually going down 4-1 after trailing by three goals at the break. Lewis Clarke scored for the hosts, but a hat trick from Mark Corbett and a goal from James Harri saw Chippy through.

Premier Division Carterton A finished Division 1 Aston off before half-time as they won 3-1 at home. David Cooper’s goal for Aston was cancelled out by strikes from Luke Simmonds, Mike Bolt and Craig Isle.

West Witney took on Hailey for the second week running with the home side again running out winners. Dean Mays scored for Hailey before half time but two Kevin Lewis efforts and one from Tom Perry ensured West’s advance.

In the only all-Division Two tie, Carterton Pumas saw off Bampton Town by 4 goals to 2. A Dean Matthews brace plus goals from Dan Smith and Steve Harries were enough for Pumas, while Bampton responded through Jack Goodchild and Adam Lee.

Carterton Rangers and Hanborough couldn’t be separated over 90 minutes as they went into extra-time at 0-0. However, a Dan Haggie penalty for visiting Hanborough was not enough as Steve Read and Elliot Witt scored to send Rangers through.

Division Four side Bampton United gave Premier Division Ducklington a scare as they took them to extra time before going down 3-2. Ian Peedell had bagged a brace for Duck in normal time which was levelled up by Nathan Beckett and Tom Boot. During extra-time though, Peedell completed his hat trick to avoid an upset.

Jack Busby Cup

In the only Jack Busby cup tie of the day, Duclkington Reserves were beaten 5-2 at home by North Leigh B. Dave Baker and Omar Semlali scored for the hosts, but a Craig Horne brace, goals from Just Keyani and Dan Claridge plus a Martin Ferreira own goal were enough to see North Leigh through.

Division One

In a bottom of the table clash, FC Mills overcame Freeland A 4-3 at home. Goals from Rob DeBanks, Jordan Hamblin and two from Tim Senior were enough to seal victory while Freeland replied through a Lloyd Little brace and a Steve Carvey effort.

FC Nomads were put to the sword by a merciless Minster Lovell, as they lost 9-1 at home. Chris Johnston’s strike for Nomads was scant consolation as the Minster goal-glut was shared amongst just two players – Steven Burke with a five-timer and Ed Dunn with four.

Leaders Stanton Harcourt were involved in a tough encounter at home with new-boys Chadlington as they battled to a rare 0-0 draw.

Division Two

West Witney Reserves maintained their lead at the top of Division Two with a 5-1 win away at Charlbury Town Reserves. Charlbury scored first through John Webb, but a brace from Josh Grant plus goals from Mark Haydon, Matt Townsend and Adam Gray secured the points for the visitors.

Milton lost at home for the first time this season as Witney Royals Reserves ran out 5-2 winners. Roger James and Steve Hocknell scored for Milton, but a Mikey Piper hat trick and strikes from Chris Catchpole and Dean Treadwell sealed the win for Royals.

Witney Wanderers are still searching for a first win as they were beaten 6-2 at home by Middle Barton. Braces from Jack Fowler and Paul Kay, plus goals from Martin Kay and Rob Davis clinched the game for Middle Barton, while Adenir Cesar bagged two for Wanderers.

Division Three

Visitors FC Hollybush maintained their impeccable league form with a 2-0 win at Aston Reserves. Aaron Hyatt and Paul Dray scored the goals in a one-sided game.

Chipping Norton Town Reserves battled to a 1-1- draw with visiting Tackley. Chris Betreen put Tackley ahead, but Sam Philpott levelled in the second half to ensure the points were shared.

Freeland B recorded a much-needed win over Wootton Sports at home, with a 311 scoreline. Callum Parker scored twice for the hosts, with Dan Godden adding the third. John Potts scored for Wootton.

Basement boys Brize Norton Reserves were on the end of a 9-1 hammering away at Kirtlington. The hosts scored through braces from Anthony Booker, Andy Gillespie and Tom Wilson, with individual goals from Sam Faria, Nathan Kelly and Darryl Kelly. A Rob Brown penalty was Brize’s consolation.

Spartan Rangers Reserves earned a point at home to Minster Lovell Reserves in a 1-1 draw. Ben Allan scored for Spartan with James Hearn replying.

Division Four

Ducklington A went down 2-1 at leaders Bourton Rovers. Rick Coleman and Jake Oakey put the hosts two up at the break, with Tom Costley responding for the visitors in the second half.

Spartan Rangers A romped to a 6-1 win away at Chadlington Reserves. A Dexter Lancaster brace and goals from Tom Merchant, Dan Humm, Matt Lewis and Tom Parry sealed the win for Spartan with Steve Jones replying for Chadlington.

Visitors Eynsham Sports & Social Reserves beat FC Hollybush Reserves 5-3. Leigh Parsons and Kevin Webb scored twice each with Shaun Rowbotham adding the fifth. Davey Cooper’s hat trick wasn’t enough for Hollybush .

Greystones lost 6-3 at home to Corinthians, having been ahead in the game. Two Clayton Foster goals and a Gary Smith strike put the hosts in the lead, but a Frank Webb hat trick plus goals from Mark Read, Graham Ciudiskis and Ian Carey gave Corinthians the win.

Strugglers Milton Reserves lost 2-1 away at Kingham All Blacks Reserves., having been level at the break. Joe Bartlett scored for the visitors, but Kurtis Atkins and Ed Webb got the goals to seal victory for Kingham.
