Match Reports - Week 24

With most of the Witney & District games falling foul to the weather, only a handful of games saw it through to kick-off.

Junior Cup
Freeland cruised through to the Third Round of the Junior Shield after a 5-1 win over Kingham AB. Scott Greening (2), Dan Alsworth, Chris Greenaway and Adrian Williams score the goals for the visitors with Dom Hemmings getting Kingham’s only goal.

A single Matt Smith goal was enough to give Aston a 1-0 win over Minster Lovell securing their passage to the next round.

Kei Merrett scored a hat trick in Carterton Pumas 6-0 demolition of Middle Barton. Darren Davenport, David Yates and Matt Mills got the others.

Premier Division
West Witney overcame local rivals Witney Royals 4-3 to establish a seven point lead at the top of the Premier Division. Tony McLemen (2), Ady Holder and Kevin Lewis scored the important goals, however goals Jamie Goodwin (2) and Matt Thompson in a late surge from Royals provided a nerve-wracking finish.

Division Three
Kirtlington finally fell to their first defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 to Carterton. Chris Bowles scored both for the hosts. Alex Metcalfe scored a late reply for the visitors who remain two points clear of Carterton in the league.

The points were shared at Minster Lovell reserves as the hosts were held 1-1 by Brize Norton Reserves. Tom Brennan scored for Minster with Ciaran Clarke scoring for Brize.

Division Four
Bampton United closed the gap on Ducklington A at the top of Division three to just two points after a 14-1 annihilation of Greystones. Nathan Beckett lead the scoring with a 6-goal haul for the hosts. Dan Oyston, Conor O’Shea and Conor Kelly each bagged a brace with Sam Hancock and Sid Ashley adding. Dean Lee’s goal for Greystones was scant consolation.

A Powerful strike from Jason Smith gave hosts, Wychwood Forresters an early lead over FC Hollybush Reserves, but a three-goal blitz from the visitors just before half-time helped them to a 4-2 win. Karim Diallo (2), Dave Cooper and Dean Spivey all scored to secure the points with Paul Townsend scoring from the spot late in the second half.
