Match Reports - Week 25

Premier Division
League leaders Spartan Rangers remain 2 points clear at the top of the Premier Division after a 5-1 win over Wychwood Forest. David Cross and James Clarke scored twice each with Matt Townsend netting the other. Mike Duerden scored Forest’s consolation goal.

Hanborough kept the pressure on the leaders after a 4-1 win over Kingham AB. Liam Harris (2), Dan Haggie and Aston Leach scored the winning goals with a Matt Smith penalty Kingham’s only response.

At the bottom, Charlbury leapt above opponents, AC Finstock in the table courtesy of a 4-2 win over their hosts. Jason Blackman and Josh Russell scored for Finstock with Sean Gilbert (2), Andy Woodley and Tony Bott getting on the score sheet for the visitors.

Reigning champions, Hailey kept their slim title hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Minster Lovell. Ed Dunne scored both goals for Minster but goals from Joel King, Joe Fullerton, Mark Wright and Charles Winstone were the difference in the sides.

Ducklington’s title credentials were tested by a resolute Witney Royals as they were held to a 0-0 draw.

Division One
All of the promotion chasing sides picked up maximum points this weekend with leaders Chad Park coming from behind to beat West Witney 2-1. Josh Solomon had given the hosts the lead but strikes from Mark Sheffield and Josh Vaughan earned the visitors the points.

Second placed FC Chequers also picked up 3 points after a 5-3 win over FC Nomads. The hosts raced to a 3-0 half time lead with Paul Read (2) and Dan Harwood finding the back of the net. Jack Costar, Steve Bircher and Steve Potts gave Nomads hope but further goals from Nathan Beckett and Tom Gonzales settled the tie.

North Leigh A comfortably beat Aston 3-0. Lee Moseley, Tom Townsend and Will Smaldon all got on the score sheet.

Witney Wanderers went down 2-0 to Chipping Norton. Aaron Witham and Rhys Warner Carter with the goals.

Brize Norton piled on the misery for FC Mills with a 2-0 defeat. Chris and Matt Hunt scored the goals that sees Mills rooted to the foot of the table.

Division Two
George Woodcock grabbed a hat trick in Stanton Harcourt’s 5-2 win over Milton. Martin Cripps and Mark Godden netted the others with David Jeynes scoring both goals for Milton.

Ducklington lost ground on Stanton after they were beaten 4-2 by Southrop. Simon Williams grabbed a hat trick for the visitors with Shane Imms getting the other.

Charlbury Town beat strugglers Wootton 2-0. A Gary Jones strike and a Russell Bracey own goal contributed to the defeat.

The points were shared at Burwell Meadow where Witney Royals Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw with Hailey Reserves. Mikey Piper and Neil Barrett scored for the hosts with Martin Bull and Kristian Collis scoring for Hailey.

Brize Norton Reserves and Middle Barton also shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. James Hook bagged a brace for the hosts with Ollie Puddle getting the other, while Jack Eaglestone (2), and Nick Pickup scored for Barton.

Division Three
Freeland kept what pressure they could on runaway leaders West Witney Reserves with a narrow 2-1 win over Witney Royals A. The hosts had the lions share of chances, but only took all three points when a Darius Hodaei corner flew straight into the net. Martin Webb had levelled for Royals after a Sam Burton opener.

North Leigh got their promotion push back on track with a 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Eynsham SSC. Craig Horne and Tom Radband scored the goals that moved North Leigh into third.

Minster Lovell and Tackley swapped places after the proverbial ‘6-pointer’ ended 1-0 in favour of the Visitors. A single Oscar Triggs strike for Tackley took all three points and sent Minster back into the relegation places.

Division Four
In what could be a title decider, Carterton Pumas showed their class in a 7-0 win over high-scoring promotion favourites AFC Marlborough. David Wanless scored a hat trick with Ben Hayes, Dan Chillington, Keiron Lace and Jon Wood all netting.

FC Hollybush will rue their 4-2 loss to Wychwood Forest Reserves as they missed the chance to take second place. Jon Smales (2), Oliver Bush and Adam Harris scored for the hosts with Ally Laing and Ed Brookes scoring for Hollybush.

Combe Reserves beat Spartan Rangers 3-0. Stan Benwell, Kenny Wray and Conor Merritt scored the telling goals.

Jon Room scored two in Eynsham A’s 6-0 win over Eynsham SSC Reserves in their local derby. Stu Fathers, Dan Hill, Sam Jones and Adrian Wooldridge scored the others.

Corinthians went down 4-1 to Freeland B. Richard Meredith scored for the hosts but a hat trick from Adam Longford and a Rob Belcher strike ensured the visitors took all three points.
