Witney & District Football Reports - Week 10

John Fathers Oxfordshire Junior Shield 17-18 - 2nd Round

It was a good day for the Witney & District league as 16 out of the 26 teams taking part got through to the next round. Of those involved in the all W & D ties, it was Bampton United, Eynsham SSC, Middle Barton and Aston who progressed, the latter coming courtesy of a 4-0 win over Witney Wanderers. Jamie Flemming grabbed a hat trick with Jamie Kennedy getting the fourth.

It took extra time and penalties to separate Bampton United and Corinthians after their game was poised 3-3 at 90 minutes. Jake Pritchard, Nathan Beckett and a Jake Woodcock own goal put 3 on the board for the hosts with a Frank Webb (2) and Jake Woodcock levelling at the right end for Corinthians. However it was Bampton who held their nerve from the spot winning the shoot-out 5-4.

Andy Stratford banged in a hat trick as Eynsham SSC sent Brize Norton out of the cup. Haydn Parker and Jake Farrugia pulled two back but it was not enough.

Middle Barton will join Eynsham in the next round as they despatched Chadlington 1-0. A single John Umney goal was all it took to secured the win.

Chipping Norton recorded the biggest win of the day as they demolished Chinnor 15-0. Reece Bayliss netted four of his sides goals with hat tricks for Nathan Bott, Rhys Warner-Carter and Kieran Watts. Connor Ladbrooke and Dan Bott scored the others.

FC Hollybush thrashed Banbury Cross with an almost as impressive score line. The W&D representatives put ten past the Banbury without reply to record a 10-0 win. Craig Mays notched another hat trick with Michael Duerden (2), Bradley Bryant (2), Al Rogers and Josh Grant all finding the back of the net.

Witney Royals cruised through the next round as they defeated Union Street from the Oxford City League 5-2. Dan Townsend tried hard and bagged a brace with Steve Brasier, Matt Thompson and an own goal all adding to Royals’ tally.

Hanborough made hard work of their match against Chasewell Park from the Banbury & District side, narrowly edging them out 5-4. Ian Steele (2), Jamie Hodges, Dan Haggie and Joey Burgess all helped to bulge the onion bag.

Joining Boro’ in the next round are Ducklington for whom Ben Stanley and Charlie Fished scored in their straight forward 2-0 win over Kingsmere.

Alex Ayres and Stephen Hocknell both registered in Milton’s 2-0 win over Thame Churches whilst Charlie Harper, Callum Hampson and Luke Pettifer all scored in Spartan Rangers 3-1 over the visiting B&N Newington.

Kingham All Blacks Brushed aside Steeple Aston during their match which ended 6-3 to the W&D side. An own goal added to strikes from Ashley Thornton George Wood and a Sam Philpott hat trick.

Combe made light work of Finmere as they knocked the hosts out 8-2. There was a brace a piece for Emmanuel Ogunbiyi and Matt Baker with Ciaran Northwood, Pat Gardener, Ethan Penney and Leke Shodunke all getting amongst the goals.

AFC Naranja were narrowly knocked out 3-2 by Siege FC for whom Matt Mills, Nigel Jones and James Woodham-Davis all scored.

Tom Cairns, Leigh Travers, Craig Green, Will Smaldon and an own goal were responsible for Tower Hill Stars 5-0 win over Ashton Folly from the Banbury & District League. Joining them in the hat will be Bletchington as they went through 3-1 against the hosts Bloxham. Joe Goodgame scored twice with Todd Parker-Hunt getting the other.

Jack Eley, Craig Mc Callum and a Warwick Thompkins brace were to thank for Charlbury Town’s 4-1 win over Bodicote.

Chris Laurence scored a hat trick for FC Nomads and still ended up on the losing side as Nomads went down 6-3 to Chequers.

FC Mills couldn’t repeat their giant killing of the previous round as they were knocked out 5-2 by Chesterton. Levi Buckford and Ben Powell with Mills’ goal.

Goring United saw off Minster Lovell 2-1 with Sam Wright getting his sides only goal.

Hailey’s cup run was also curtailed as they went down 4-2 to Original Swan. Luke Manning and Callum Mutch scored the consolation goals.

Despite scoring 4, Carterton Rangers were also knocked out 5-4 by Tetsworth. Jonny Dover, Carl Shirley and Adam Lee (2) were on target for the vanquished visitors.

Premier Division
Kirtlington moved into fourth after their 6-2 defeat of Carterton Town A. Dave Wanless and Connor Kelly both recorded strikes for the hosts but goals from Tom Williams (2), Shane Probitts (2), Alex Metcalfe and Ally Broome secured the points for the visitors.

Division One
Neither Tower Hill or Stonesfield could take advantage of leaders Aston’s involvement in the cup to take top spot with both sides having to settle for a point after their 2-2 draw. James Harris and Adam Bolley scored for Tower Hill with Ed Gilkes and Raffy Rice replying for the visitors.

Division Two

Charlbury Town Reserves remain only two points clear at the top as they were defeated 2-1 by Moreton Rangers. A Jack Robson brace was enough for the hosts despite Michael Hayes response for Charlbury.

Despite the shock in the divisions other match, the result of the day was at Aston where Aston Reserves beat Hanborough Reserves 11-2. Ryan Hewer, Reece Wain and Matt Smith all bagged hat tricks with Dan Long and Matt Wood getting the others. Luke Archer and Herbie Hamilton scored the token response for Boro’.

Division Three
Minster Lovell Reserves moved to the top of the table on goal difference after their comfortable 6-1 win over Chipping Norton Town Reserves. Gary Mithcell (2), Craig Sallis (2), Russel Whitlock and Jordan Anderson all found the back of the net. Matt Smith’s goal for Chippy was scant consolation.

A Jack Morgan treble was enough to secure the points as Combe Reserves hosted Milton Reserves. Louis Beaks and Dan Hooton scored for Milton.

Lee Spencer scored four of Wooton’s goals as his side saw off Witney Royals Reserves 6-2. Liam Robinson and Michael Steers got the others as Mikey Piper and Rhys Woodward responded for the visitors.

Division Four
Bletchington Reserves remain at the top of the table after their 4-2 win over Bampton United Reserves. Mason Connelly, Jonathan Watts and Michael Trafford (2) all found the back of the net with a Josh Morgan brace the response from the visitors.

Siege FC Reserves went down 10 -0 to Chadlington Reserves. The goals were shared amongst Connor McMahon (2), David Austin, Jack Legg, Kevin Mulhern, Andy Wiffen, Alsie Peachy and Ollie Jordan who bagged a hat trick.

Carterton Town B recorded an impressive 3-0 win over promotion chasing Wootton Reserves. A Dan Chillington double and a goal from Kieron Lace settled the tie.

Gavin Smith scored a hat trick in Brize Norton Reserves, 7-4 win over Eynsham SSC Reserves. Leo McLoughlin (2), Paul Morrison and Olly Puddle got the others with Will Timmis (2), Lewis Cooper and Bradley Buckingham hitting back for Eynsham.

In the Ascott derby, it was FC Ascott Reserves who have the current bragging rights over local rivals FC Ascott Rangers. The hosts ran out 6-1 winners with Charlie Vickers (3), Ben Harris, Tom Nicholson and Jay Whelan all finding the back of the net. Chris Brooksbank scored the consolation for Rangers.

Stonesfield Reserves held on for a 4-3 win over visiting Spartan Rangers A. Scott Mason, Tom Merchant and Declan Stephens all scored for Spartan bit a brace each for Liam Harris and Peter Searle was enough to secure all three points.
