Premier Division

The 2010-11 Witney & District Football season got underway on Saturday with little pomp and ceremony as only a third of the participating teams had fixtures. The opening fixtures in the Premier Division had last season’ runners up, Ducklington visit Witney Royals. Neil Barratt opened his account bagging a brace, but Jack Morton, also netted twice for Duck and Ian Peedels strike tipped the balance in favour of the visitors, who took all three points.

Charlbury Town, who finished third last season, hosted Premier Division new boys and current Division One Champions, Wychwood Forest. The visitors gave a good account of themselves, but soon realised that it was going to be a tougher season than last time, going down 3-1. Chris Jones scored for the visitors, but Matt Smith, Shaun Gilbert and Andrew Woodley all netted for the hosts.

Division One
Brize Norton took all three points in their efforts to bounce straight back into the top flight with a convincing 4-1 win over Witney Wanderers. Chris Hunt (20, Dan King and Dan Frizzell were all on target for the hosts while Bernie Crumlish replied for Wanderers.

FC Nomads continued with the form that saw them promoted from Division Two last year, coming from behind to beat Ducklington Reserves 4-3. Mike Hole, Steve Potts, Chris Lawrence and Steve Bircher with a penalty ensured the win after Ryan John , Ian Luckett and goal keeper, Matt Hemsley all scored for Duck.

Sam Ockwell scored twice in Astons 3-0 win over West Witney. Dan Long added the third in the one sided match.

A single Dan Harwood strike was enough to take all three points for FC Chequers in a 1-0 win over Chipping Norton Town.

Division Two
Martin Hamilton, Wayne Evans and Jamie Saverton all found the back of the net on their visit to Burwell in a 3-2 win over Witney Royals Reserves. Mickey Piper had pulled the hosts level early in the first half but pulled ahead in the second half did enough for all three points.

Brize Norton Reserves beat Carterton A 3-2 as the hosts failed to get a point in their first game in Division Two. Ian Sparkes and Mark Southam scored for Carterton but Liam O’Brien (2), and Shaun Rawlings scored for Brize to earn the win.

Southrop and Charlbury Town Reserves shared a point each after drawing 1-1. Graham Ciudiskis and Carl Siford scored for Southrop and Charlbury respectively.

Division Three
Jamie Goodwin scored a screamer in West Witney Reserves 4-1 win over Eynsham SSC in the only game in Division Three. Andy Salkeld, James Minion and Gary Smith all added to Goodwins peach of a strike with Greg Seeney scoring Eynsham’s lone reply.

Division Four
AFC Marlborough began their season in style with an 8-3 win over Eynsham SSC Reserves. Jon Clements’ hat trick was the highlight for the visitors. Steve Foreman (2), Lewis Charlett, Mark Luke and Bruce Wilson all added to the score line. Mark Ryder’s hat trick for the hosts was mere consolation.

Kyle Drummond netted a hat trick in Carterton Puma’s 5-1 win over Eynsham A. New boys Carterton added to the tally with goals from Simon Gordon and Keiron Lace while Jamie Merry scored the lone strike for Eynsham.
