Match Reports - Week 21

Premier Division
Hailey stumbled in their surge to the top of the Premier Division after being held to a 2-2 draw with hosts Brize Norton. Rob Hook had given Brize the lead before top Hailey’s leading goal scorer, Luke Manning, pulled the visitors level on the stroke of half time. Hailey looked set on 3 points as Manning grabbed his second for the afternoon. However Rob Hook also doubled his tally bringing parity to the score line. Hailey remain in third place, 7 points off top spot but with 3 games in hand. The point may not be enough for Brize however; despite a heroic performance, they sit 5 points from safety in the relegation zone.

Craig McCallum smashed in all four goals for Charlbury Town as they saw off Minster Lovell 4-3. The game see-sawed before Town took control and McCallum’s four goal haul settling the tie after Connor Tinsley (2) and Rob Hipkin had put Minster in with a shout of all three points.

Chipping Norton Town were held to a 3-3 by hosts Witney Royals, blighting any realistic chance the visitors had of a title charge. Jamie Kennedy scored twice with Martin Holder getting the other for Royals. Reece Bayliss replied twice for Chippy and set up Warwick Thompkins for their third earning a share of the points.

Division One
Adam Webley put in a 5-star performance for Bourton Rovers as he smashed in 5 of Bourton’s total in a 12-0 mauling of FC Nomads. The hosts always looked in control as the goals went flying in from Sam Mattock, Dan Smith, Kevin Hunt, Craig Gilson and also Josh Catling who picked up a hat trick.

Second placed Combe kept in touch with the leaders after seeing off FC Hollybush 5-2. Olly Morgan-Bellemy scored twice with Sam Hibberd, Mike Gardener and Ethan Penney getting the others. Dave Cooper hit back in vain with both the visitor’s goals.

There is now a clear divide between the top and bottom half of the table as North Leigh, defeated Chadlington 3-2. North Leigh are now 6 points clear of Chad as Justin Timms’ (2) and Dan Townsend’s goals earned the win. Steven Hunt netted twice but couldn’t find the third for his hat trick and a share of the points.

Hailey Reserves beat Eynsham SSC 5-1 with the goals being shared equally amongst Mo Semlali, Ash Mills, Kristian Collis, Mark Edmonds and Mark Orpwood. Mike Barker scored the consolation goal for Eynsham.

Division Two
Milton hosted promotion chasing Carterton Rangers and caused an shock upset as they ran out 3-1 winners. Lee Keys scored for Rangers but goals from Rob James, Harry Lake and Robbie Watts settled the tie.

At the top, leaders Stonesfield hosted relegation candidates Enstone and eventually cruised to an entertaining 9-4 win. Ed Gilkes picked up a 5-goal haul for the hosts with Pete Searle (2), Evens Bolland and Paul Penney getting the others. Enstone’s scorers were Jacob Cooke, Elliot Samworth, Gareth Wessels and John White.

Tom Parry scored twice in Carterton B’s 5-3 win over Witney Wanderers. Dan Sollis, Craig Wighton and Jack Mills scored the others with Tom Gregory (2) and Andrew Thompson replying for the visitors.

Division Three
Dave Cross returned to haunt his old club Witney Royals as he smashed in a double hat trick in a 9-0 win for second placed Spartan Rangers Reserves. Royals Reserves were without reply on a boggy pitch as Cross racked up his 6 goals, with Rory Dunseath, Joel Spalding and Charlie Harper netting the others.

Ducklington A are still clear leaders as they saw off Corinthians 4-2. Sam Aston and Frank Webb scored for the hosts but goals from Scott Mason (2), Lewis Scott and Lewis Bartlett settled the tie in Duck’s favour.

On a very muddy pitch, Bourton Rovers Reserves ran out 5-4 winners as they travelled to Wootton. The hosts’Mitchell Larman and Graham Berry each bag a brace, but a hat trick from Matt Whitehill and further goals from Matt Winter and Jamie Stroud settled the tie.

Division Four
Sam Roane and Zac Sheffield in Eynsham’s 2-0 win over Chadlington Reserves. Eynsham, are now a couple of wins away from gaining promotion to Division Three at the first attempt.

Tower Hill Reserves are set to join Eynsham A in Division Three next season as saw off Spartan Rangers A 5-2. Will Graham and Adam Townsend each scored twice with Ashley Overton getting the other. Chris Blainey and Jamie Williams scored for Spartan.

Tom Madden netted twice for the hosts as Bampton United Reserves beat Milton Reserves 2-1. Harry Nolan was on target for the visitors.

Jamie Hewitt, Dan Johnson, Lee Parsons and Shaun Rowbotham were all on the sc ore sheet as Eynsham SSC Reserves beat Wootton Reserves 4-2. Fraser Scott and Sam Benewll hit back in vain for Wootton.

John Fathers OFA Junior Shield
West Witney played hosts to Heyford Athletic, who are currently undefeated in the Banbury District & Lord Jersey FA. However, they tasted defeat for the first time this season as Chris Hirons scored twice past them with Carl Dodds grabbing the other. Heyford hit back in the second half, but West Witney held on for the win and passage to the semi-finals.

Ducklington went down 4-2 to Blackbird Rovers. Dave Naworynsky and Jack Morton were in target in the defeat while Hanborough were also knocked out; their vanquishers KEA who beat them 3-0.

Fred Ford Cup Quarter Final
Spartan Rangers saw off Carterton Town A 2-1. Harry Thompson and Chris Macneil had scored for Spartan and Carterton respectively, seemingly sending the game into extra time before Spartan’s Henry Clarke popped up in the 90th minute to score the winner.

Junior Cup
Bradley Snell and Dave Oliver each hit the back of the net in Ducklington Reserves 2-0 win over FC Mills sending them through to the second raound.

Kingham went down 3-0 to Bampton United for whom Jake Pritchard (2) and Sam Weeks scored.

Kirtlington and Aston were involves in another thriller as the hosts eventually ran out 6-4 winners. Alex Metcalfe, Jake East and Shane Probitts all scored twice in the win. Despite scoring a hat trick, Benji Sunblad ended up on the losing side with Phil Caswell getting the other.

Supplementary Cup
Charlbury Town Reserves are through to the second round after a 7-2 win over FC Hollybush Reserves. Jorge Granja and Darren Aston & James were on target for the Bush, but goals from Jay Jay Hancocks (2), Jack Ely (2), Mark Goode, Daryl Potter and Cameron Grain put the result beyond doubt.

Darren Davenport (2), Ryan Clements, Steve Harris, Josh Korikia and Steve Allery all found the back of the net in Wychwood Forests 6-2 win over Aston Reserves for whom Dan Isherwood and Joe Crawley scored.
