Match Reports - Week 17

Premier Division
Hailey took control of the Premier Division on Saturday after inflicting a 2-1 defeat on current leaders Carterton A. Shaun Rayfield who has re-found his goal-scoring touch since joining Hailey, netted a brace with Jason Trinder replying for the visitors. Carterton remain 8 points clear, however Hailey who have 3 games in hand can take top spot if they win all three.

West Witney ran out comfortable 5-0 winners away to Brize Norton. Tony McLemen bagged a brace with Karl Dodds, Craig Mays and Kev Lewis getting the others.

Witney Royals picked up their third win of the season with an impressive 4-0 win over title pretenders Chipping Norton Town. Jamie Kennedy scored twice with Matt Thompson getting the other. Chris Catchpole weighed in with a rare goal to complete the score line.

Cody Davies and Gary McKinnon were both on the score sheet as Minster Lovell beat relegation candidates Ducklington 2-1. Jack Morton replied for hosts Duck.

Hanborough and Charlbury played out a rare 0-0 match, with both sides squandering chances to take all three along with points. Excellent goal keeping in either net also helped to keep the score at a stalemate..

Division One
Spartan Rangers re-took top spot from Bourton Rovers as the fight for the Division One title yet again swung in Spartan’s favour. Rangers picked up three points after a 4-0 win over Eynsham SSC. A double each for Donovan Henderson-Sowerby and Matt Howard settled the tie.

Ethan Penney picked up a hat trick as Combe battered Chadlington 8-0. Pat Gardener and Simon Gale each scored twice with Jake Morris’ strike completing the rout.

Aston climbed up one spot and are now 7 points clear of relegation after a 5-2 win over FC Hollybush. Dan Knight and Dan Hedges scored for the hosts but goals from Matt Smith (2), Warren Austin, Joe Allison and Benji Sunblad ensured the win for Aston.

Hailey Reserves look to re-discover their early season form after earning a 2-1 win over Kingham. Richard French scored for the hosts but goals from Sean King and John Andrews gave Hailey the points.

Division Two
Division Two leaders, Stonesfield were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Carterton B, who themselves are still garnering points for a promotion push. James O’Brien and Paul Penney scored for Carterton and Stonesfield respectively.

Kirtlington picked up all 3 points as they beat Ducklington Reserves 2-0. Frank Harrison and Jake East scored the winning goals.

Jake Pritchard (2), Conor O’Shea (2), Jack Henry, Steve Godfrey and Sam Wright were all on the score sheet as Bampton United beat Enstone 7-2. Chris Angus and Gareth Wessels goals for Enstone were mere consolation.

At the bottom Hanborough Reserves secured the points against Witney Wanderers as they ran out 4-2 winners. Craig Keylock, Joey Burgess, Lee Pontefract and Jason Bubb all found the back of the net for Boro’ with Tom Gregory and an own goal making up the tally for Wanderers.

Division Three
Tower Hill are on course for a second successive promotion as they moved into second place, but remain 7 points behind leaders Ducklington A after they notched an impressive 5-3 win over hosts Corinthians. Luke Hessey, Alex Marsden and Frank Webb were on target for the hosts but a Jack Simpson hat trick swung the tie in favour of the visitors. Joe Brown and Jamie Goodwin scored the others to give Tower Hill all three points.

Spartan Rangers Reserves promotion hopes took a blow as they slipped to third place, courtesy of an epic 6-4 defeat at the hands of Chipping Norton Town Reserves. Dave Cross (2), Joel Spalding and Craig Isle scored for the hosts but a hat trick from
Sam Philpott inspired Chippy for whom Matt Smith, Connor Ladbrook and Shaun Kemp also scored.

Wootton beat Middle Barton 3-0 with Graham Berry, Tom Holder and Rod Alexander all finding the back of the net.

Witney Royals Reserves came from two down to draw 2-2 with Brize Norton Reserves. Scott Peaper and Jason Hirschfield put the visitors ahead, but a rare strike from Stuart Tranter brought the hosts back into the game with Liam Readhead levelling the score line. Brize could have taken all three points were it not for the heroics of Royals keeper, Paul Hatley who pulled off a string of astonishing saves.

Division Four
James Bignell scored twice for FC Hollybush as they picked up only their third win of the season. Bignell’s brace secured a 2-0 win over Milton Reserves and gave the visitors a glimmer of hope of avoiding the W&D wooden spoon.

At the top, Tower Hill Reserves handed out a 9-0 thrashing to promotion chasing Spartan Rangers A. Tower Hill went top on points as Ashley Overton smashed in a four-timer. Sam Bowers scored twice with Adam Townsend, Andy Jackson and Will Graham getting the others.

The points were shared at Aston Reserves as the hosts drew 1-1 with Chadlington Reserves. Matt Jameson scored for Aston with Matt North netting for Chad.

Charlbury Town Reserves picked up the win as they saw off Wychwood Forest 1-0 courtesy of a strike from Gary Jones.

Kingham Reserves came out on top as they beat Wootton Reserves 4-2. Fraser Scott and Sam Benwell were on target for the hosts but goals from Tom Butler (2), Ryan Bolger and Callum Brown gave Kingham the win.

Eynsham SSC Reserves and Bampton United Reserves had to settle for a point a piece as they drew 2-2. Jamie Hewitt and Dan Johnson were on target for Eynsham with Sammy Hancock and Joey Paintin scoring for Bampton.
