Supplementary Cup Final

In their first season Carterton Town B completed a league and cup double, by defeating Minster Lovell Res 3-0 in the Supplementary Cup.

Minster were also looking for a double after winning the Jack Busby Cup final earlier in the season, but they were missing a couple of key personnel in their forward line. Carterton started much the brighter and were making early in roads behind the Minster defence. From one of these Shay Lothian, managed to beat keeper Luck Colville to the ball, but his lob hit the top of the bar and rebounded to safety.

The reprieve for Minster was short lived though, from almost the next attack, a shot was blocked, but it fell to leading scorer Dave Wanless, who made no mistake from 10 yards out. Carterton were by now completely on top and from a corner, a Wanless header again hit the bar and was hacked clear. It was only a matter of time, before Carterton extended their lead and it was a shot from distance from Ryan Clement, that squirmed under the body of the diving Colville.

Minster could easily have rolled over here, but to their great credit they gradually started to get back into the game. A long range strike from Gary Mitchell tested Sam Rolls in the Town goal and a great cross from Aidan Foard was met by the head of Nick Rose, but it drifted wide.

The second half started with Minster still on the ascendancy, but without creating much. The young Carterton defence were starting to panic a bit and instead of passing the ball out, the clearances were just getting lumped and coming straight back. However for all the Minster pressure, Rolls was hardly called into action.

With 10 remaining Town should have sealed the victory when a Wanless cross to the far post was met by sub John Wood and some how he headed over when far easier to score. However, it did not really matter as in the final minute Clement added the third to complete the win.
