Witney & District Football Reports - Week 27

Witney & District Supplementary Cup 17-18 – Second Round
Bletchingdon Reserves will take their place in the Quarter Finals of the Supplementary Cup after they demolished FC Ascott Rangers 13-0. Senan Simmons was the star of the show bagging five of his sides goals as Tom Knox (2), Ben Johnson, James Washington, Aaron Johnson, Barney Smith and Toby Smith all got in on the act.

Siege FC are also through after beating Stonesfield Reserves 5-2. Liam Harris scored twice for the hosts but goals from Andy Makepeace (3), Karl Dodds and Rob Marsh settled the tie.

Watts Junior Cup 17-18 - Quarter Final
Dan Townsend bagged a double Witney Royals beat Hailey Reserves 4-0 to progress to the Semi-Finals of the Watts’ Junior Cup. His brace was accompanied by strikes from Sam Britnell and Dave Cross. Royals could potentially face Aston after they defeated Chadlington 1-0 courtesy of a single goal from Ryan Colleton.

Due to fixture congestion, Tower Hill have only just played their Second Round game however they had no problem making it through to the Quarter Finals after they beat FC Nomads 6-1. James Scott scored a hat trick with Jack Scott, Jamie Harris and Chris Olive getting the others. Chris Laurence’s goal for Nomads was scant consolation.

Ted Young Senior Cup 17-18 - 1st Round
Charlbury Town will be in the draw for the second round of the Ted Young Senior Cup after they demolished Minster Lovell 6-2. Craig McCallum scored twice in the win with Matt Smith, Mark Goode, Warwick Tompkins and Jack Eley getting the other goals. James Hector and Henry Traas replied for Minster.

Carterton Rangers will join Charlbury in the next round after they edged a close affair with hosts Hailey. Dan Hall scored a hat trick for Rangers in the 4-3 win with Liam Day netting the fourth. Luke Manning (2) and Tom Gregory’s goals for Hailey were not quite enough.

Kirtlington however will not be in the hat as they were knocked out by Carterton Town A 5-3. Connor Kelly (2), Ben Liddle, Steve Harries and Luke Davenport were all on target in the win with Ross Gray, Adam Kelly and Antony Booker replying in vain for the hosts.

Premier Division
Current Champions Hanborough moved to the top of the table for the first time this season, displacing previous leaders FC Hollybush courtesy of a 3-0 win over the hosts. Will Potter, Craig Johnson and Jack Morton scored the goals that consigned Bush to only their second defeat of the season and sent Boro’ top.

Bottom side Combe tore up the form guide and handed out an 8-0 thrashing to Chipping Norton Town in their bid for Premier Division survival. Leke Shodunke led the scoring with a four-timer with Matt Baker getting a hat trick. Callum Surrage completed the rout. The result may be Combe’s life line as they are now 5 points from safety with two games in hand.

Division One
Stonesfield moved to the top of Division One; leading by goal difference; after they beat Eynsham SSC 3-0. Carry Rice, Raffy Rice and Ed Gilkes all got on the score sheet.

Tower Hill Stars went down 3-1 to Milton. Jason Blackman scored for the hosts but a double from Alex Ayres and a goal from Steven Pearce secured the points for Milton.

Division Two
The big game in Division Two saw Kingham All Blacks host Middle Barton. It was the visitors and league leaders Middle Barton who emerged victorious after a single goal from Tony Beckham settled the tie.

Bletchington are still in with a shout of promotion after they saw off relegation threatened Spartan Rangers 5-3. Jonny Richards (2), Jake Godfrey, Danny Evans and Richard Wells were all on target in the win with Arrun White (2) and Callum Hampson hitting back for Spartan.

Brize Norton and Charlbury Town Reserves had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1. Jake Farrugia and a Dan Humm own goal registered for Brize and Charlbury Respectively.

Division Three
FC Hollybush Reserves closed the gap on Siege FC at the top of the table to three points after their narrow 4-3 win over Corinthians. Frank Webb, Luke Cuthbert and Gareth Newman scored for the hosts but goals from Steve Holder (2), Richard Williams and Eddie Brookers secured the points for Hollybush.

Minster Lovell Reserves are hot on the heels of Hollybush after they brushed aside Milton Reserves 5-0. The goals were shared evenly between Craig Sallis, Rui Alves, Jordan Anderson, Russel Whitlock and Stuart Mitchell.

Ducklington recovered from last weeks cup exit with a resounding 7-2 win over Chipping Norton Town Reserves. Tom Costley and George Townsend each bagged a brace with Tom Townsend, Ady Kew and Sam Doherty all finding the back of the net. Lukas Dolzel and Martin Krays hit back in vain for Chippy.

Combe Reserves were on the wrong end of a 10-2 score line when they hosted Wootton. James Minchen and Charlie Ibbitson’s goals for the hosts was the only highlight after conceding strikes from Finbar Saunders, Michael Steers. Fraser Scott and Karl Guschtscha who scored a hat trick. However Lee Spencer went one better getting four for his side.

FC Mills perennial battle against relegation began in earnest as they were beaten by once fellow strugglers Bourton Rovers Reserves. Dean Spivey and Dan Hedges scored for Mills but it was scant consolation as Bourton hit back with goals from Lee Mosson (2), Andrew Herbert, Alex Winter, Toby Hitchman and Will Wrenn.

Division Four
There was no change at the top of Division Four at the weekend as Siege FC Reserves went down 9-1 to leaders Kingham All Black Reserves. Player Manager Nigel Jones scored for the hosts, however it was mere consolation as goals from Adrian Williams (3), Paul Tyak (3), Sam Barker (2) and Dan Lay all got on the score sheet.

Carterton Town B, currently lie in second after their 5-1 mauling of Wootton Reserves. The visitors made a flying start and Dave Wanless lead the line scoring four of Town’s goals. Shay Lowthian scored the next with Theo Flatman replying for Wootton.

Bampton United Reserves beat FC Ascott Reserves 5-1 with Steve Newman (2), Matt Creasy and Richard Ghagan all finding the back of the net. Jason Bufton replied for Ascott.

Jason Hirschfield and Leo McLaughlin both scored hat tricks in Brize Norton Reserves 9-0 demolition of Eynsham SSC Reserves. Lee Litton, Paul Morrison, and Olly Puddle got the others.

The points were shared at Chadlington where Chadlington Reserves drew 1-1 with Spartan Rangers A. Alfie Peachey and an evergreen Michael Hole scored for Chad and Spartan Respectively.
