Witney & District Football Reports - Week 15

John Fathers Oxfordshire Junior Shield 17-18 - 3rd Round
The Witney & District fixture schedule fell foul to the weather for the first time this season as the frost set in to no fewer than eleven grounds around the leagues. However, despite the cold, Charlbury were able to play hosts to Hanborough in the Junior Shield. However, they would finish on the wrong end of a 3-2 score line as Hanborough extended their winning streak. Warwick Thompkins and an sliced Arran Diaz own goal gave Charlbury their two goals but strikes from Craig Johnson, Jack Morton and Will Potter ensured Hanborough would be going through to the quarter finals.

An Andy Stratford hat trick confirmed that Eynsham SSC would be joining Boro’ in the next round as they saw off KEA 3-2. However, it was the end of the road for Aston as they went down 3-0 to Westminster.

Jack Busby Memorial Trophy 17-18 - Quarter Final
In the Jack Busby Cup, Bletchington Reserves cruised through to the semi-finals after beating Combe Reserves 4-1. Simon Gale scored for Combe with Michael Trafford and Jonathan Watts’ each bagging a brace.

Hanborough Reserves are also into the semi’s as they saw off Kingham All Blacks Reserves 4-2. Luke Archer (2), Dan Burgess and Herbie Hamilton scored for Boro’ with Chris Perrot amongst the goals for the hosts.

Division One
Not a single Premier Fixture survived the frost and so into Division One where Chadlington put daylight between themselves and their hosts, Milton after a 3-0 win. Chad, who are now four points clear of Milton in mid-table scored through Matt Chadwick and Harry Mincer.

Tower Hill Stars remain hot on the heels of leaders Stonesfield after their emphatic, 6-2 win over Witney Royals. Liam Readhead and Jamie Goodwin got on the score sheet for the hosts but goals from Adam Townsend (2), Will Smaldon, Tom Cairns, Sam Bowers and Tom Bennington put the result beyond doubt for in favour of the visitors.

Division Two
Kingham AB missed the chance to go five points clear at the top of Division Two after they were held to a 1-1 draw by a promotion chasing Middle Barton. John Umney scored for the hosts with Chris Mills replying for Kingham.

Witney Wanderers recorded their third win of the season, beating Spartan Rangers Reserves 2-0. Josh Walkington and Mark Wright both found the back of the net for Wanderers.

Division Three

In the only match in Division Three, FC Mills went down 5-3 to visiting Bourton Rovers Reserves. Dean Spivey scored twice for the hosts with Stu Cutts getting Mills’ third, but an Alex Winter hat trick put the skids under Mills, who remain second from bottom. Gary Joynes and Max Self scored Bourton’s others.


Division Four

Carterton Town A keep the pressure on the leading pack after a 5-0 thrashing of Spartan Rangers A. The hosts found nothing in reply to Town’s attack with Jack Gibson (2), Noven Labor, Dave Wanless and an own goal all contributing in the unanswered salvo.

Siege FC Reserves recorded only their second win of the season, courtesy of a 3-1 win over Eynsham SSC Reserves. Connor Harrison (2) and Andy Makepiece scored on the victory as Ben Partlett scored Eynsham’s consolation.

Chadlington Reserves went down 3-0 to Brize Norton Reserves with Paul Morrison, Jason Hirshfield and Gavin Smith all getting on the score sheet.
